Kendrick Meek Statement on President Trump’s Address to the Nation
Meek: ‘Our Community Must Come Together, Reject Division, Protect Sacred Right to Vote’
Miami, FL
Kendrick Meek, candidate for Florida’s 24th Congressional District, released the following statement on Donald Trump’s address to the nation:
“Tonight, Donald Trump doubled down on the lies of 2020 to undermine the 2026 midterms because he cannot defend a Republican record of higher costs and endless chaos. Let me be clear: Trump lost the 2020 election in a free, fair, and verified vote. Now, he is trying to poison trust in our democracy and erode voting rights yet again because he fears the judgment of the voters.
“This isn’t just about changing rules; it’s about trying to silence Black voters and eliminate Black representation in Congress. We see right through the gerrymandered maps and voter suppression tactics pushed by Trump and his allies to dilute our community’s political power.
“My grandmother, Carrie Meek, dedicated her life to expanding civil rights, and my father, Congressman Kendrick Meek, proudly continued that legacy of service. As the great Congressman John Lewis reminded us, ‘Ours is not the struggle of one day, one week, or one year... Ours is the struggle of a lifetime, or maybe a share of many lifetimes, and each generation must do its part.’
“I am running for Congress to stand on their shoulders, protect our representation, and continue the long fight to preserve and advance our freedoms. Our community must come together, reject these divisions, and protect our sacred right to vote.”
