Longtime North Miami City Councilman and LGBTQ Advocate Scott Galvin Endorses Kendrick Meek for Congress

Galvin Hails Meek’s Commitment to Responsive Leadership, Protecting South Florida’s Diverse Communities

Miami, FL

Today, longtime North Miami City Councilman and community advocate Scott Galvin officially endorsed Kendrick Meek for Congress in Florida’s 24th Congressional District, citing Meek’s commitment to responsive leadership, constituent services, and protecting South Florida's diverse communities.

“Kendrick Meek knows that effective leadership in Washington starts with putting people first right here at home,” Councilman Galvin said. “Having worked side-by-side with his grandmother, Congresswoman Carrie Meek, I know what dedicated public service looks like. Kendrick carries that exact same responsive, constituent-first heart. He will stand up for our immigrant neighbors, fight for real equity, and ensure every community—including our LGBTQ youth and families—has a fierce champion in Congress. I am proud to endorse him.”

Scott Galvin served for more than 25 years on the North Miami City Council, earning a reputation as a trusted local leader and effective public servant. His roots in the district run deep, having volunteered on Carrie Meek’s historic State Senate campaign and later serving in her Congressional office as a constituent services liaison and immigration caseworker. Galvin is also widely respected across South Florida for his decades of non-profit advocacy championing rights and protections for LGBTQ people and queer youth.

“I am incredibly honored to earn the endorsement of Councilman Scott Galvin, a leader who has spent more than a quarter-century delivering real results for our community,” Kendrick said. “Scott’s unique perspective—rooted in his time working alongside my grandmother to help immigrants navigate our broken system—reminds us of the life-changing impact of strong constituent services. In South Florida, our diversity is our greatest strength, but our immigrant and LGBTQ neighbors face relentless political attacks. In Congress, I will build on the legacy Scott helped my grandmother establish by building an office that is accessible, deeply responsive, and relentlessly dedicated to preserving our fundamental freedoms. Together, we will ensure that every resident across Miami and Broward has a voice in Washington.”

Florida’s 24th Congressional District spans across the heart of northern Miami-Dade and southern Broward counties.
